Gum Treatment
The purpose of the periodontal treatment is to stop or slow down the progression of periodontal (gum) disease which is the inflammation and infection of the gums caused by plaque and calculus build up due to poor oral hygiene.
Periodontal Treatment may involve removal of plaque/ calculus build ups , scaling and root planning.
Gingivitis is an early stage of gum disease where bacteria in plaque and calculus can damage the gums and cause inflammation. Gingivitis can be successfully treated by removal of plaque and calculus followed by thorough brushing and flossing every day.
Periodontitis is an advanced stage of gum disease which can cause serious damage to the teeth, gums and the surrounding bone structure. This can result in the loss of many teeth in some people.
