mouthguard and splint therapy

Mouthguard

A custom-made mouthguard by Dental One offers the most protection to teeth and surrounding soft tissue and jaws, as it is specifically tailored to the bite pattern and mouth shape. They are made from a detailed cast of your teeth. A mouthguard is just as important for children as they are for adults. For children, a mouthguard can prevent your child sustaining an injury, which may result in many future dental problems, especially if a tooth is knocked out or a jaw injury occurs. Custom-made mouthguards are a comfortable fit and enable you to speak and breathe easily.

Splint therapy

Splint therapy is an option for those that suffer from grinding or clenching their teeth. Bruxism is the dental term for the unintentional and normally subconscious clenching and grinding of teeth, mostly occurring during sleep and times of stress. Many sufferers are unaware of their condition and extent of the damage caused until diagnosed during their dental check-up. Wearing a splint will help to eliminate the symptoms of bruxism as they are designed to absorb the biting forces while you sleep. This acrylic guard, similar in appearance to a sport mouthguard but much finer, prevents further damage to your tooth enamel, gums and soft tissue. It will also reposition your jaw to its correct position so your muscles can relax.
